Ja, die Aufmerksamkeit nimmt in den letzten Jahren sogar zu, wobei es immer deutlicher wird, daß ihr Wirken und Werk eine zeitlose Relevanz hat und damit auch Antworten auf Fragen unserer Tage liefert. Dabei rückt ihr Schaffen als Komponistin immer mehr in den Mittelpunkt des Interesses: Die nun bei dem Label celestial harmonies erschienene dritte Folge der Gesamteinspielung der Werke Hildegard von Bingens setzt die mit Veröffentlichungen in den Jahren 1996 und 1999 begonnene, viel beachtete Reihe fort. Damit wird eine Komponistin gewürdigt, deren Lebensweg ebenso beeindruckend ist wie ihre Musik. Als zehntes Kind einer Adelsfamilie im Jahr 1098 geboren, wuchs sie ab ihrem achten Lebensjahr in klösterlicher Umgebung auf, wurde 1136 zur Äbtissin berufen und gründete in den späten 1140er Jahren ein eigenes Kloster auf dem Rupertsberg bei Bingen. Obgleich sie schon seit ihrer Kindheit Visionen hatte, hielt sie diese erst nach 1141, einer göttlichen Eingebung folgend, in ihrem glaubenskundlichen Buch „Scivias“ („Wisse die Wege“) fest. Sie verfaßte eine große Fülle von Schriften, darunter zwei weitere Visionsbücher, und komponierte Musik nach eigenen spirituellen und lyrischen Texten. In einer Epoche, in der nur wenigen Frauen wirklicher Respekt entgegengebracht wurde, avancierte Hildegard zu einer hoch geachteten intellektuellen Autorität und Ratgeberin, deren Meinung von Klerikern und weltlichen Herren gleichermaßen geschätzt wurde. Die neue CD mit dem Titel „O nobilissima viriditas“ (ch 13129-2) ist einer besonders wichtigen und bedeutungsvollen Facette ihres Denkens und Schaffens gewidmet: Die „viriditas“, die grünende Lebenskraft, die in der Vorstellungswelt Hildegards allem Lebendigen zugrunde liegt, eine Urkraft Gottes, die seine Schöpfung immer wieder neu aufleuchten läßt, wurde zu einem Kerngedanken in ihrem Werk und inspirierte sie zu einigen ihrer intensivsten und leidenschaftlichsten Liedtexte und –kompositionen. Ihre lateinischen Texte sind dabei von einer vitalen, sehr lebensnahen Metaphorik erfüllt – mit sich überlagernden Themen wie Natur und Dynamik, Wachstum und Erblühen, Vitalität und Tugend. Diese Einspielung ist die musikalische Antwort auf Hildegards Vorstellung einer spirituellen Urquelle allen Lebens. Die Musikerinnen: Basierend auf der Handschrift der „Symphonia“, die Hildegard in ihrem Konvent in Rupertsberg bei Bingen um 1175 anfertigen ließ, machte sich Stevie Wishart an eine Gesamtausgabe der 77 Gesänge. Die vielseitige australische Musikerin und Sängerin gründete 1987 das Projekt Sinfonye. 1989 kam die Sängerin und Workshopleiterin Vivien Ellis, bald darauf Fiddle-Spielerin Jocelyn West dazu. Die Gruppe spezialisierte sich auf traditionelle und zeitgenössische Musik, insbesondere auf jene Werke, die von Frauen komponiert wurden, und gab zahlreiche Konzerte in ganz Europa, Nordamerika und Australien. Dabei kombiniert das Ensemble auf einzigartige Weise aus der Tradition hergeleitete improvisatorische Fähigkeiten mit Erkenntnissen zur historischen Aufführungspraxis – der besondere Zugang des Ensembles zu mittelalterlichem Repertoire wurde von der Musikkritik hoch gelobt. Stevie Wishart schreibt zu diesem Projekt: „Es scheint, daß die Musik für Hildegard einen Weg darstellte, als Sterbliche so etwas wie himmlische oder spirituelle Verzückung zu erfahren – und es ist vielleicht gerade dieses Verlangen, mit dem wir uns heute am stärksten identifizieren können.“ Kein Zweifel: Die auf insgesamt ? Folgen angelegte Reihe wird die Faszination der Hildegard von Bingen für lange Zeit nähren. the project O most noble greenness, you whose roots are in the sun and who shine in bright serenity in a wheel that no earthly eminence can comprehend o nobilissima viriditas is the third volume of The Complete Hildegard von Bingen, following Symphony of the Harmony of Celestial Revelations and Aurora, released in 1996 and 1999 respectively. Hildegard von Bingen was born in 1098 as the tenth and last child of a noble family. In 1106 at age eight she was entrusted to Jutta of Spondheim’s convent which was attached to the Benedictine monastery of Disibodenberg on the mountain of St. Disibod. After Jutta’s death in 1136, Hildegard became abbess and she subsequently established her own convent on the Rupertsberg near Bingen in the late 1140s. Although she had had visions since childhood, it was only after 1141, following a divine call, that she dedicated herself to document her visions in the book Scivias. During her mature life she produced a prolific and varied range of writings, including two more books of visions, and she continued to compose the music and the poetry of her songs. At a time when few women were accorded respect, she lived to become a highly respected writer, poet, composer and visionary, much sought-after for her counsel by popes, regents and bishops. Viriditas was to inspire some of Hildegard’s most imaginative and passionate song poetry and music. Her lyrics are all in Latin and they abound with images from nature, using leaves, branches and flowers to communicate overlapping themes of energy, vigour, blooming, manhood, virginity and virtue. This recording is a musical response to the concept of viriditas—songs celebrating the greenness so fundamental to Hildegard’s music as the vigour or source of life. the artists Sinfonye, founded in 1987 by Stevie Wishart, was conceived as an ensemble combining improvisatory skills derived from traditional music with performance practices recreated from historical research, with a particular interest in repertories sung, inspired or composed by women. Sinfonye has performed throughout Europe, North America, and Australia, and their recordings have been acclaimed for their innovative approach to the medieval repertory. Writes Stevie Wishart: “We welcome this opportunity to record the complete works of Hildegard and to recreate the imaginative spirit of this remarkable composer. For Hildegard, it seems music was a way for mortals to experience something of heavenly, or spiritual ecstasy, and it is perhaps this desire which we can most clearly empathize with today.
